The Regiment
"A good regiment like the 79th may be destroyed - but it cannot be defeated." With these words a historian of the Battle of Waterloo honoured the Regiment whose traditions we perpetuate. In the mud of the Somme and the pebble beaches of Dieppe the Regiment twice came close to destruction but the courage and fighting spirit of the Camerons persevered. We licked our wounds, mourned our dead and rebuilt and reconstituted the battalion to resume the fight, carrying the Regiment onto ultimate victory.
An infantry regiment, the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada have always expected to bear the brunt of the fighting. To this end the unit's training is geared to weapons, field craft and tactics - the essential tools of the infanteer. From World Wars to the Cold War and now to the War on Terrorism, the Camerons have trained to defend Canada and defeat our country's enemies.
